Who's the Scaredy Cat?

I've been waiting to make the official announcement for a week now because I was hesitant and scared to share the news, but Hylan and I have a new addition to our household...

Introducing Kingo, the Russian Blue.

I'm not sure why I have been scared to share the news. Perhaps it's because most of the people we know are "dog people" and I thought they would turn their noses up in disgust. But how could you be disgusted by that face?

Or, maybe it's because even though I love cats, I wasn't sure I ever wanted to own one because I'm obsessed with cleanliness and sensitive to smells, but when the opportunity came up to adopt this 1 year-old kitty for free, we had to pounce on it.

Since we have an unfinished basement, we set up his domain down there. He is allowed to come up to the main level for play time and nap time, but he is never allowed on the counter top, table, or upstairs in the bedrooms. He's actually quite obedient and smart.

He is also definitely one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. He never scratches or bites. His favorite thing to do is curl up right next to me on the couch (even as I type this blog) and take naps. He also likes to put his paws around our necks and give us hugs and "head-butts." I'm not even kidding. The picture below shows what he does on a daily basis. It's very cute.

Affectionate Kingo

Playful Kingo

Laser Sharp Kingo

Tall Kingo

Purrfectly Sweet Kingo

Hylan wasn't much of an animal person before, but he loves this kitty wholeheartedly!

Congrats on your cat! It is very pretty. Riley really wants a cat. I'm not sure I'm ready.

I love the blue hue! I never saw a kitty quite that color. It's going to take a few years before I can wear down my husband enough for us to get a pet ;)

Awwww, he is darling!! I love how huge and snuggly he is.
The boys are dying to get a kitty, so I'm toying with the idea of a similar set up at our next home (aka, living quarters in the basement with allotted play time)... we'll see.
