Family and Food

Amidst turbulent times, we are constantly reminded of what matters most: family! On Hylan and my Dad's birthday, Marie Arielle was born to my brother and his wife in San Diego. On Sunday, Hylan and I were able to spend the entire day down in Santaquin for Brigham Taft's baby blessing and luncheon. This coming weekend we're planning to get together again with my other brother's family in Provo for waffles and home-tapped maple syrup from their NY home's trees. (Yes, my brother taps his trees and boils down his own maple syrup. How cool is that?!)

My sister and I are currently planning a family reunion in Pennsylvania to celebrate our parents' 40th wedding anniversary in August. We're all so spread out: California, Utah, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania that it seems like we have a tough time all getting together at the same place and time. It seems that we could do better, so we're trying.

I'm the little one with the unicorn dress.

So, even if the Dow does drop below 7000 as it currently is, we can still find lots of joy and lots of reasons to celebrate. I'm not saying money wouldn't make the celebrating a little more festive, but alas, happiness and contentment can still be ours! :)

I wish Hylan would have liked this falafel recipe a little better, because I thought it tasted so good when I made it last week. It tastes like a spicy fried hummus. I didn't even alter the recipe and served it just like this:
He did however, like theses No-Bake Cashew Brittle Bars, as cashews are his favorite kind of nut.

Not to mention the parchment wrapped baked salmon and asparagus, the mini onion quiches (with sausage), as well as the all-you-can-eat crab dinner at Magleby's for his birthday. Hylan also enjoyed picking out a couple of business books and a yoga for hurt backs dvd at Border's on his birthday. Also for this birthday, I rented Madden NFL '09 for the Wii which we enjoyed playing on Saturday night.

And that's what is on my mind at the moment: family, food, and fun. A little later today, I'll include fitness.
