The Glorious Second Trimester

22 weeks today.

taken 2 days ago

After my pregnancy complaining post from a few weeks ago, I think I'm finally experiencing what all of my weekly updates refer to as the "glorious 2nd trimester."  Not that I feel awesome and fabulous every day, but mostly I can eat "normally" and I can still exercise the same (except laying in prone position--that doesn't last very long, but at least that's easily modified by all-fours exercises).

Speaking of "normal" eating, I qualify that with I can't believe how many packages of Ramen Noodles I've eaten in the past few months!  Holy Smokes.  I crave that stuff for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack.  I've also eaten more saltine crackers in the past few months than I probably did in the past ten years or so.

Anyway, my point is that I don't feel like I'm eating like I did pre-pregnancy because I certainly don't eat the quantity of veggies that I used to, but I also haven't lost all self-control with junk food.  I think the biggest difference is that now more than ever I crave convenience and I don't worry myself like I used to about eating more processed foods than I care to admit (ie Ramen Noodles, fruit snacks, packaged crackers, and occasional *gasp cup of Sprite).  That list is not all-inclusive.

I've also allowed a few more fast foods into my diet, but honestly I still regret that gross Whopper meal from Burger King (great reminder why I never go there--yuck!) and the super disappointing KFC meal.  What happened to you delicious fried chicken?  Thankfully Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches are still appetizing.  Subway and Jimmy Johns are still sometimes crave-worthy.  And bean burritos from Del Taco were surprisingly delicious even during my first trimester.

But lately, these days, all I want is SOUP! I have some sort of soup at least once a day.  I crave it all the time--especially anything chicken brothy like chicken noodle, chicken and dumpling, creamy chicken and rice, etc.  YUM YUM YUM.  I make it.  I buy it (thanks Chick-fil-A and Zupas for being convenient).

One day I even had different soups for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Soup just always sounds appetizing and comforting for some reason.  Come here delicious Thai Coconut Curry soup from Noodles & Company!

Anyway, I don't mean to gloat, but unlike the first trimester where I felt like I could check off each and every possible symptom of pregnancy, now I'm wondering if I'll be able to continue to avoid: heartburn, stretch marks, varicose veins, cholasma, swelling, foot growth, oily skin, various intestinal discomforts, etc.  Perhaps I still have some fun things to look forward to, but for now, I will enjoy the days when I'm not congested or have a headache and can make it through the night without having to go to the bathroom (some days/nights are better than others).  Now if only I can remember not to get up too fast from the couch, maybe then I can avoid the dizzies.

I'm not sure why I'm surprisingly positive in this post--maybe I'm still beaming over the thought of having a little girl, or I'm much more content because I enjoy cooking and baking again--because this week I've been battling a cold which has not been fun, but at at least it didn't hit me as hard as it did Hylan. Thank you prenatal vitamins!

Now it's time to pack on some more pounds because I'm a bit behind in that department (+ 6.5 lbs).  Luckily, Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up!  Yummy, yum, yum, yum.

Oh yeah, and I've been giving these sweet morsels away to my students and I have yet to indulge myself. What the heck?  I'm weird.  Time for a S'more, don't ya think?

I loved Subway when I was pregnant this last go 'round. :) Soup is great too, especially since y'all actually have a fall up there. We're just barely getting out of the 100's. I'm sure you'll have other pregnancy symptoms, but maybe not? My sister never had any, other than fatigue. Enjoy the second trimester!

I'm impressed with your knowledge about pregnancy woes. Maybe I was just uninformed, but a lot of those symptoms caught me by surprise...a nasty surprise. I'm sure you've heard this before, but your little girl will be worth it!! Glad you're feeling better :)

Oh gosh! I loved this update! Pregnancy is so amazing and crazy!
I'm craving soups like mad lately too, but it's just because I have fall fever in a bad way!
Still praying for you and little miss. :)
XOXO

I totally craved soups, salads, and sandwiches while prego. I never wanted anything greasy or fried. Very rarely did I want sweet or treats. I wanted cheese puffs though. : ) Good luck on the symptoms, a lot of mine held off for quite a while, then snuck on me at the end, though I didn't have a bad time.
